Super storm Sandy death toll at 37 in NYC

This article talks about on ongoing super storm located in the north east part of the United states.  The storm is currently hitting the New York state the hardest as it is causing extreme flooding.  At least 37 people have already died from the storm, but the number could be rising as emergency workers search the most effected areas caused by the storm.  It was also stated that nearly 500,000 thousand people are still without power due to the storm.  The whole subway system is shut down in New York due to flooding and unsafe conditions.  The subway system is a tragic loss because it is really the "life of the city" as stated by a reporter in the article.  This article talks mostly about the effect that the storm is having on New York, although is extremely affecting other states and is definitely effecting us here in Canada.  The high powered winds and the heavy rain is causing schools all around to shut down and home all around are being damaged and are loosing electricity.

I believe that this storm is truly a horrible thing, it is effecting everybody's daily life in New York and all the way up here in Canada.  I really feel for the people that ether died or lost someone during this storm, as that is truly a horrible thing.  I really hate the feeling of living through the tail end of the storm in Toronto, so i cant even imagine what it is like in New York.  People are having to go through extremely tough times, as they may not have food to last them, or power to keep themselves engaged.  People may be loosing money through the storm especially  weather they cant work or they don't have the insurance to fix there houses damage. I really feel bad for everyone that is having to live through this storm and hope that no more people loose there lives due to the storm.

No bail for teen accused of multiple Toronto sex assaults

A 15 year old boy has recently been charged with connection to a string of sexual assaults in Toronto, Ontario.  Female pedestrians would be attacked from behind by this boy late at night.  Toronto police cannot   say the name of the teen because of the youth criminal justice act policy.  He was arrested around 11 pm at the scene of another alleged sexual assault.  He is now facing 14 counts of sexual assault and 2 account of criminal harassment.  The more than dozen assaults date all the way back to the summer.  This could not of been done without the help of the women police officers who went undercover.  The women went undercover late at night, luckily none of them were hurt as they could of easily been the subject of another sexual assault.

I personally am very happy that the the boy was finally caught.  The fact that he is now of the streets and is no longer scaring women all around the downtown Toronto area must make a lot of people feel safer in there community.  I think the women in the police force did a great job, by putting them selves at risk and going undercover is an extremely hard thing to do.  The women stood there ground and are the primary reason this man was caught and token off the street of Toronto.  I think its very sad that there are still women being attacked like this, i think its sad that such a young boy had already damaged a large portion of his life by making a mistake as largely as this one.

Man held in NYC plot to blow up Federal Reserve

This article talks about a Bangladesh man who was arrested yesterday after an elaborate FBI sting on Wednesday after attempting to blow up a fake car bomb outside the federal reserve building in Manhattan.  before carrying out the alleged terrorism plot he went to a warehouse to help assemble a 1,000 thousand pound bomb using inert material, He also asked the and undercover agent to video tape him saying " we will not stop until we attain victory or matrimony".  The agent then grabbed the man, armed with a cellphone said to be used as a detonator.

"Attempting to destroy a landmark building and kill or maim untold numbers of innocent bystanders is about as serious as the imagination can conjure

was said by the FBI lead official.

I personally think that what is going on between America and other middle eastern countries is horrible, it should never come to attacks against another country that will hurt important landmarks or will hurt innocent civilians in the process.  What is happening between these two countries needs to stop because it is not leading to anything positive and is only going to tear the two countries farther apart.  By doing this they are purposely putting civilians in danger and purposely attempting to damage important landmarks.

Amanda Todd memorials planned across Canada

This article talks about a girl by the name of Amanda Todd that died last Wednesday as a victim of bullying and suicide.   Approximately 60 people attended her Memorial at Vancouver park Monday evening.  This is just one of the many memorials that the family has planed to give thanks to all the people across Canada that have shown support to Amanda and her family.  An outpouring of emotion has followed her death, as over 100 Facebook pages have been made to show support for her and her family.  This single teens death has brought incredible attention to people of all ages about bullying, the affects of bullying and how it can affect a person and there family life.  On Monday the internet hacking and activist group anonymous published the name and address of Vancouver area man that alleged was bullying and preying on Amanda via the internet. This man has made himself the target on Facebook, Twitter and other media sights.  The RCMP is now watching over the internet to make sure that the man is safe.

I personally have mixed emotions about the whole thing, i feel that it truly is a horrible thing what happened to this young girl and the way it ended.  I also like the whole universe has handed the situations and how people have shown tremendous amount of support to Amanda and her family.  I personally do not like how the family is having funerals all around Canada, i personally think they should have kept it within in the family and friends.  I think it is a good that the man bullying Amanda was found but i do not think it was right to release the name, by doing this you have now put another life into an incredibly unsafe position and he is now facing death threats threw all of the social media sights.  I think the RCMP is doing the right thing by monitoring the social media action and making sure this man is not in danger and not a potential victim.

B.C. girl's suicide foreshadowed by video

This article talks about a young girl from B.C that committed suicide after posting a video showing how she was bulled and tormented by using flash cards a couple days ago.  Amanda Todd's video "cry for help" was posted in earlier September, you tube took it down following her death.  She doesn't talk throughout the video, instead she uses flash cards to get her message across, this is a tactic that has been used a lot lately.  This whole problem started when a unknown man webcam ed her, the man convinced the girl to flash him on webcam.  The man later blackmailed her, by posting and sending her picture around, ruining her total reputation.  Amanda ran from school to school and city to city but the pictures kept on reappearing, at one point she switched schools, made new friends all for the man to come back and send her new friends the photo.  Following her suicide, the whole social media world went nuts, there were post of sympathy and post of  hate.

I personally hate reading a story like this, it truly is quite saddening to hear of such a young girl that died at such a young age.  The saddest part of this all is she wanted to die, she figured being dead would be better than how her life is now.  It really amazes me how someone could get bullied so bad and so often to the point where they even contemplate suicide.  It really must hurt to be someone that made this girls life such a living hell.  I really hope bullying stops once and for all because this is really just one of the many examples of people ether loosing there lives or hating there lives do to other people being involved with another persons
life.

Navy officer in spying scandal sold secrets to Russians

This article talks about a Canadian forces sub-LT who walked into the Russian embassy offering to sell secrets to the Russians military intelligence agency.  This marks the beginning of a espionage career that lasted nearly four years after the naval spy plead guilty for spying earlier today.  Jeffery Paul Delisle plead guilty in a Halifax Wednesday for breaching of trust and two accounts of passing information to a foreign country.  Delisle is said to have walked into the embassy wearing a red ball cap and civilian clothing, he then flashed his Canadian military identification and asked to meet with someone from the Russian military.  He would go to work everyday with a thumb hard drive and download reams of information and would sent hat monthly for years and years, he would only get 3000 dollars a month.  In 2009 Delisle wanted to stop dealing with the Russians, the Russians then responded by sending him a picture of his daughter walking to school that may have scared him.  Shortly after this, they asked him to meet with the GRU in Brazil, they told him they wanted to be a "pigeon" spying for them in a certain area that happened to be Canada.  Delisle agreed and was handed 50,000 dollars in cash, when they couldn't get that across the border, he went with 4 debit cards of 10000 dollars and 10000 dollars cash.  The security was alarmed by let him through, but then notifying the military who raided his house.  They found lots of evidence and his sentence goes up to 5 years in prison.

I am very surprised reading an article like this, you would never think someone working for your military system as someone who is going to hurt his country, most people view them as people fighting for are rights but in this case he was really hurting our country and helping another.  I am also very surprised that he was able to do this for so long without being caught, the Russians obviously got lots of valuable information and for such a low price for such an important thing. Also the fact that the Russians payed for him to go down to Brazil and gave him 50,000 dollars to continue doing this is really quite shocking.  I would never expect another country to do this kind of thing as it really was a good thing this man was finally caught.  The security at the airport really did a great job, the noticed something was up when this man brought enormous amount of money over the border and did the right thing they leads to a safer place for  our country.

XL Foods beef recall expands yet again

This article talks about the list of beef products from an Alberta processing plant be recalled due to possible E.coli contamination has grown and will continue to grow.  1500 items have already been recalled and a dozen were added recently.  This number can definitely increase as trace products from the plant to secondary and tertiary distributors.  XL foods plants is currently shutdown, and will not be reopened until there is 100 percent no harm to humans.  There are four known cases of E.coli in Alberta and around 13 known around Canada.  It is said that XL foods did not follow some safety procedures, this being the main cause for the E.coli and people getting sick.

Reading an article like this actually makes me very mad, this is because people simply didn't care enough about there business and there product and it mad people in very serious and dangerous positions because of it.  This is causing many people to worry about buying meets, causing people to take much more precaution when buying or making there own foods. I personally hope XL foods gets shut down permanently,  there should never be allowed a company that puts people at risk when selling a product.  There may only be 13 known causes but this can and may start to explode, there should never be people getting sick because of people not being carefuller when having a business that can affect other people.

Massive fuel plant fire in Winnipeg under control

This article talks about a massive fire that tore through a racing fuel plant on Monday.  The police stated they had to have an emergency evacuation for over 100 nearby houses.  The fire caused huge amounts of black smoke and an chemical smell carried on to the next day in the nearby areas.  The fire caused many roads to be blocked therefore causing huge amounts of traffic.  homes withing 1 kilometer radius of the fire had to be evacuated due to precautionary reasons.  it wasn't until mid day Tuesday that the residences were allowed to move back into there homes.  Some of the reasons for the delays was to due with the fact that the racing fuel had a lot of unknown flammable chemicals that could have made the fire worse.  residences were told not to worry about the smog because it was not dangerous.  Fire fighters never entered the fire because there was worries about an explosion, this is the biggest fire in the last 25 years of Winnipeg history.  There was no injuries reported so far.

I believe that the town on Winnipeg is actually very lucky.  For a fire to be as big as it was and for no one to be hurt truly is a great thing.  It really must have been a sad day and a hard day for all people that had to leave there residence and to the people that may have lost there house.  One interesting thing i really found interesting was how the fire fighters did  not try and stop the fire, they actually stayed out for precautionary reason and just let it burn out.  I think that is a great call, you should never put the firefighters life at great risk if you know there is dangerous presented to them.

Winnipeg woman's 2004 death not accident, son says

This article talks about a 87 year women who was found dead in her Winnipeg home in 2004.  After a little big the police determined her death a accident and that she fell down her stairs and hit head.  Her son Jessie Garwood believed it at first but then looked into it a little more.  He said to himself that there was only 8 stairs and that the damage done to her could not have happens falling down 8 stairs.  As a autopsy report saw bruising on the back, both hands, a broken arm, 4 broken ribs and 13 wounds to the head.  After years of doing his own research he finally decided to hire his on law firm.  They decided to take it back to court and prove that is was not an accident and more research had to be done to prove who did it.  The last person to ever see her was a girl by the name of Cathy Watson.  This is still a cold case.

I think it is really sad that the police made a very urgent call about the women who they declared fell down the stairs.  To me it doesn't take a genius to conclude you cannot have that much structural damage to your body from falling down 8 stairs.  It must have been very sad for the son and for him to realize this after the police have closed the case must have been hard.  I think that it is a great thing he realized this and the police were willing to open up there investigation again and disclose some information about what they found.

'Bath salts' drug ingredient banned in Canada

This article talks about the new ingredient in a new, highly addictive street drug known as bath salt.  This drug is said to pose a  real and present danger to all Canadians that use this drug.  This is why Canada has banned it throughout the whole country.  It is said this drug can create or cause hallucinations, paranoia and violent behavior.  The police say it is hard to track down, this is because dogs cannot sniff it, and urine screening test can miss it, also it is usually packaged and sold that say it is real bath salts.

I really believe Canada made a great move by banning this drug in all of Canada.  This is because it can pose a threat to not only the person using it but everyone around them.  A person using this drug could affect there driving and there action almost anywhere they are.  Also this drug being legal could lead to people using it that wouldn't if it was considered illegal.  that could really keep someone from starting to use drugs.

North Korea agrees to take South Korea aid

This article talks about North Korea taking aid from south Korea for the first time in two years.  There was a   large tropical cyclone in North Korea.  There were 48 dead and over 21,000 homeless after the storm hit in Late August.  The article states that South Korea were the first to contact North Korea offering aid through the Korean Red Cross, North Korea later accepted.  North Korea is said to have accepted food aid from a private agency.

I personally believe that this is a huge step forward for both North and South Korea.  The fact that these two countries are still at war and are working together for the safety of the citizens in North Korea speaks volumes.  I believe the best part of the whole article is how it states that South Korea was the first to reach out to North Korea, they clearly saw that N Korea were in some serious need for help and really stepped up to the plate.  I think that this is the first step in repairing the two countries "friendship".

Military to devote $11.4M to boost mental health care programs

The article talks about how the Canadian forces have decided to devote 11.4 of its annual budget on mental health care programs.  Peter McKay stated that "the funding will pay for at least 51 positions, that would included psychological, mental health nurses, social workers, and addiction counselors.    The article also states how this budget will be onto of the 38.6 million dollar budget.

I personally think its really great that the Canadian army has decided to take better care of the soldiers.  I really think that army has an obligation to take care of the people that are fighting for our country.  These people sacrifice there lives every day so i think the least we can do is expand our budget and make sure they are taking care of.  One thing i really liked is how a large portion of the budget was spent on mental health care programs.  this is because war can lead to mental illness, and if we don't have the right doctors to take care of the soldiers than that is a real problem.

Ruling to take child off life-support appealed to top court

This article talks about a young girl that was physically abused and starved by her parents.  Doctors said that the young girls brain is so severely damaged that she will never regain consciousness.  This article states how the Alberta court system gave permission for the girl to be taking off life support, but has now gone to the supreme court of Canada.  The girls parents have been in jail since this case started and have both given permission to visit there daughter within 20 hours of the ruling that is scheduled to come within a couple of days.

I personally believe that this girl deserves to stay on life support.  She has clearly been through an incredibly tough life and did not deserve to be treated the way she was.  I personally do not agree with the permission granted by the Alberta court system to give the parents a right to visit there daughter, this is mainly due to the fact that there the primary reason she is on her death bed.  The fact that her parents starved there daughter and physically abused me makes me believe they have no care for there daughter and should have no right to visit them.
